This past January I celebrated 11 years cancer free and in February I celebrated my 32nd birthday. In the Spring of 2012, I rode 3,168 miles across the United States on a road bike, to celebrate my 6-year cancer free anniversary. On July 27, 2017, I suffered a serious heart attack. It turns out I had a golf ball sized blood clot in the left ventricle of my heart. My doctors said it was caused by the chemotherapy I had back when I was being treated for the cancer diagnosis. A week later on August 4, 2017, I needed to have open heart surgery to implant an LVAD (Left Ventricle Assist Device) into my heart. On February 25th, I underwent a heart transplant to replace my failed heart and remove the LVAD. I am currently in full recovery mode, adjusting to my new life with a new heart. Learning about what this new ticker can do. I've adjusted my diet and added constant attention to sanitation and avoiding illness, due to my non-existent immune system.
